A Cruise autonomous car was involved in a collision with a semi-truck in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Monday, according to a confirmation from Cruise on Twitter.
The incident occurred when the semi-truck, initially in the right lane, attempted a left turn while the Cruise car was passing. The autonomous vehicle sensed the situation and stopped, but the truck continued and struck the car.
The collision resulted in damage to the Cruise car’s passenger-side mirror. A video shared on Twitter shows the truck backing away from the Cruise car following the incident.
At the time of the collision, there were no passengers in the Cruise car, and there were no reported injuries. Cruise is currently investigating the crash.
This incident underscores the complexities and challenges that come with integrating autonomous vehicles into everyday traffic. As self-driving technology continues to evolve, so too must the strategies for ensuring safe and seamless interactions with traditional vehicles on the road.
