Cyclist’s Death Ruled as Homicide in Long Beach Hit-and-Run Case

The Long Beach Police Department is currently on the hunt for the driver of a vehicle who they believe intentionally hit a cyclist, leading to the latter’s death in hospital.

The incident occurred on the morning of July 9 at the intersection of California Avenue and Harding Street, where police found a severely injured cyclist following a hit-and-run crash. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Long Beach resident Leobardo Cervantes, was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives investigating the case determined that a dark-colored sedan was speeding when it hit Cervantes and fled the scene. It was later concluded that Cervantes was intentionally hit, although officials have not revealed how this conclusion was reached.

Cervantes passed away in the hospital nearly two weeks after the incident, with the Long Beach Police Department being informed of his death a few days later.

No suspect information has been released, and the motive behind the incident remains unclear. The police department is urging anyone with information related to this case to contact them.
