A fatal accident occurred Sunday morning on Interstate 280 in Redwood City, leaving one person dead and two others injured, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Shortly before 3 a.m., a black car moving southbound on I-280 near the State Route 92 overpass crashed into a concrete pillar for reasons currently unknown. The vehicle subsequently crossed over a metal guardrail, stopping between the first and second lanes of southbound I-280.
The driver was still in the car when another vehicle traveling around 75 miles per hour crashed into them. The impact of the collision was fatal for the driver of the first car, who was declared dead at the scene. The passenger from the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital to address reported pain.
At the time of the incident, the driver of the second car was not found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, it is still unclear whether the driver of the first car was under the influence.
Investigations are ongoing, with the CHP urging any witnesses to this accident to contact Officer E. Jimenez with Redwood City CHP at 650-779-2700. Incidents like these underscore the importance of road safety and the potential consequences of negligent or reckless driving.
