In a tragic incident on Saturday, a peaceful community gathering turned deadly when several gunmen opened fire in a south Los Angeles neighborhood, killing one person and injuring three others.
According to an L.A. police department news release, police responded to the 2100 Block of East 99th Place around 11 p.m., where they discovered that four people had been shot. The community members had congregated to watch a sporting event when the gunmen entered the neighborhood and began shooting into the crowd before fleeing in a car.
Tragically, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three victims, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, were able to transport themselves to local hospitals for treatment.
As of now, the suspects remain at large, and there is no clear motive behind the shooting. The incident underscores the urgent need to strengthen measures to curb gun violence and ensure the safety of communities.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact the South Bureau Homicide Division, Detectives Rob Jamieson or Chad Scott at 323-786-5500.
