Drake, the renowned “Hotline Bling” rapper, has recently procured a gold, ruby, and diamond-encrusted ring that belonged to the late Tupac Shakur. The ring sold at an auction a few days ago.
Drake showcased the piece on his Instagram story while promoting Travis Scott’s new album “Utopia,” in which Drake features on two tracks. The ring, which was estimated to sell for between $200,000 to $300,000, fetched a whopping $1,016,000 at the auction.
Sotheby’s, the auction house, didn’t reveal the buyer’s identity, but spoke highly of the piece in a press statement. According to Sotheby’s, Tupac designed the ring himself, which is engraved with the words “Pac and Dada 1996,” acknowledging his relationship with that time’s girlfriend, Kidada Jones.
The ring was last worn by Tupac at the MTV Video Music Awards, just nine days before his death in September 1996. Currently, Drake is on tour with fellow rapper 21 Savage for their “It’s All A Blur Tour.” This purchase underlines the lasting influence and legacy of Tupac in the contemporary music scene.
