In a tragic incident in Lancaster, a driver suspected to be under the influence caused a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a man and critically injured a young boy. The crash occurred on Saturday night and is currently under investigation by authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies from the sheriff’s department’s Lancaster Station were called to the scene near the intersection of 20th East Street and Avenue L shortly after 11:16 p.m. on July 29 in response to reports of a two-car collision.
According to a preliminary investigation, a man driving a Lexus northbound on 20th Street East failed to stop at a red light at Avenue L, resulting in a collision with a Ford sedan traveling westbound on Avenue L with four passengers.
An adult male in the rear passenger seat of the Ford suffered fatal injuries, while a male juvenile was seriously injured and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Footage from the scene showed a heavy presence of first responders and significant damage to both vehicles.
While the condition of the Lexus driver and the other Ford passengers has not been disclosed, speed is suspected to have played a role in the collision in addition to the suspected influence of alcohol or drugs.
