Family members and friends of murder victims held a press conference on Friday to express their support for the effort to recall Alameda County’s top prosecutor. Last week, a notice of intent to recall District Attorney Pamela Price was filed in the county.
The group advocating for Price’s recall, known as Save Alameda For Everyone or “SAFE,” had collected and certified 127 signatures in Alameda County as of last week. DA Price has since responded to the recall petition.
Brenda Grisham, who is leading the recall effort, received a letter from Price, to which she responded, “What I’m not going to do is be intimidated to not stand up for these families. I’m going to continue until we get the job done.”
Friday’s news conference fell on what would have been the 30th birthday of Grisham’s son, Christopher Jones, who was shot and killed in 2010 at the age of 17. Joining her were other victims’ families and friends who lost their loved ones to gun violence.
The recall effort against Price is currently underway, following the certification of the required signatures in the county last week.
The recall group needs to gather more than 90,000 signatures to get the recall on the ballot. The group estimates the recall campaign will cost around $8 million.
