A tragic accident occurred on a Texas highway when a truck hit an alligator, causing the vehicle to roll over and resulting in the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
The incident took place on State Highway 35, north of Corpus Christi, on a Sunday morning. According to the Refugio County Sheriff’s Office, the alligator was in the middle of the road when the truck struck it. The impact caused the truck to roll over a fence and come to a halt several yards from the roadway.
Five people were involved in the rollover – two adults and three children. All were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. One of the adults, identified as Gabrielle Breaux from Louisiana, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Breaux was pregnant at the time of the accident. According to Sgt. Harold Mallory, a Public Information Officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the other four individuals involved in the crash are expected to survive.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of road hazards, particularly involving wildlife.
