A fatal incident involving street racing occurred on Interstate-580 in Livermore, East Bay, when two individuals abandoned their fatally injured passenger at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is seeking public assistance to identify two street racers involved in the fatal crash, which took place around 5:32 p.m. on Sunday. A second passenger, who also fled the scene, is also being sought by the CHP.
Before the crash, 911 dispatchers received calls reporting a Toyota Camry racing a tan-colored Chevrolet Camaro on I-580 westbound near North Livermore Avenue. When CHP officers arrived at the scene four minutes later, they discovered an ejected passenger who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe that the victim and the two men were in the Toyota Camry when the accident occurred. Both the driver and the second passenger reportedly suffered severe head injuries, self-extricated from the Toyota, and were picked up by a white SUV on the shoulder of I-580.
The CHP has described the driver and passenger as Hispanic male adults in their thirties. They are now seeking the public’s help to identify these individuals, the driver of the white SUV, and any information about street racing in the area before the collision.
This tragic incident underscores the dangers associated with street racing and the importance of responsible driving. If you have any information regarding this incident, you are urged to contact the Dublin CHP office.
