Investigation Launched into In-Custody Death at San Bernardino County Detention Facility SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. — The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man while in their custody. Corey Bennett, a 50-year-old resident of Adelanto, tragically passed away while detained at the High Desert Detention Center. Bennett had been arrested at the Victorville Courthouse on Friday on charges of grand theft and possession of a stolen vehicle. Authorities suspected that he was attempting to bring a controlled substance into the jail facility, leading to his placement in a cell for observation. Unfortunately, the following morning, Bennett’s condition deteriorated while he was still in his cell. Staff at the detention center provided immediate medical attention, but his condition continued to worsen. He was promptly transferred to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The cause and manner of Bennett’s death have yet to be disclosed, as the investigation is ongoing. It is imperative that a thorough examination takes place to uncover the truth surrounding this tragic incident.
