Livermore Winery Owner Dies in Car Crash

A two-car collision in Livermore on Friday afternoon led to the death of Mitchell Katz, owner of the Mitchell Katz Winery. The Livermore Police Department reported that Katz was driving a white GMC SUV when he collided with a black Subaru on East Avenue and Mitra Street.

Katz was taken to a local hospital following the crash where he later died. The news of his passing was shared by his sons in a post on the Mitchell Katz Winery’s Facebook page.

The post read, “We have suffered a tragic loss… Our dad, Mitchell Katz, was unexpectedly taken from us this past Friday evening, July 21, 2023,”. They thanked those who had reached out with condolences and asked for continued support and respect for their privacy during this difficult time.

Mitchell Katz Winery, located at 2915 S. Vasco Road in Livermore, was established in 1998 in memory of Katz’s grandfather. The winery announced its closure for the weekend of July 22-23 following the news of Katz’s passing.

The fatal crash occurred approximately 1.8 miles northwest of the winery. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
