Elderly woman attack, Oakland man charged

Oakland Man Charged for Unprovoked Attack on Elderly Asian American Woman

An Oakland man, James Lee Ramsey, 27, has been charged following an unprovoked attack on an 88-year-old Asian American woman on Ellis Street, San Francisco. The incident took place around 11:16 a.m. on a Friday, where Ramsey allegedly kicked the woman and spat on another victim. A nearby witness detained Ramsey until the police arrived.

The San Francisco Police Department arrested Ramsey, who may face up to 10 years in state prison if convicted. The charges against him include felony elder abuse, assault likely to produce significant bodily injury, and battery causing serious bodily harm. Ramsey also faces misdemeanor counts of battery and vandalism.

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said, “The crimes that Mr. Ramsey is accused of are horrific. I am grateful to the witness who was able to detain him until police arrived ensuring that he did not flee. My office, on behalf of the victims, and every San Franciscan who is fed up with brazen violence like this, will stand for justice and seek to hold him accountable for his crimes.”

As personal injury bloggers, we often discuss the impact of such unprovoked attacks on communities. We are relieved that the attacker was detained swiftly and commend the witness for their vigilance. We hope this case serves as a deterrent for any potential offenders and emphasizes that such violent acts will not be tolerated.
