Alameda County District Attorney, Pamela Price, has announced attempted murder and additional charges for Edward Lee Corley, the suspect in a knife attack on an AC Transit bus in Oakland on July 17. The charges filed against Corley encompass attempted murder, use of a weapon, and violent conduct by a felon.
Two enhancements have also been added to Corley’s charges. The first entails an additional year of sentencing due to the use of a deadly weapon, while the second mandates three extra years in prison for causing severe bodily harm.
According to eyewitness accounts, Corley initiated a conversation with the victim before suddenly producing a knife and attacking. District Attorney Pamela Price emphasized the importance of AC Transit in providing safe transportation in the county and pledged to hold accountable those who jeopardize its passengers’ security.
The decision to add enhancements to Corley’s charges comes after DA Price received criticism the previous week for failing to introduce enhancements in a separate case. This case underscores the critical role of the legal system in ensuring justice for victims and upholding community safety.
