Rising Tensions: Freeway Shootings on I-880 Escalate

Interstate-880 in Alameda County, California, is seeing an unsettling rise in freeway shootings, with two incidents occurring within the past four days.

The latest shooting took place on Sunday night in the southbound lanes of I-880 in San Leandro. The victim’s vehicle, which was near the Davis Street exit, was hit by three bullets. However, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Hayward Area office reported that the victim escaped without injuries. The shooter’s vehicle was described as a white SUV.

Earlier on Thursday, another shooting occurred on I-880 in Union City. The busy interstate, which connects the South Bay to the East Bay, has seen a spate of shootings this year, including a tragic incident in Fremont that claimed the life of 5-year-old Eliyanah Crisostomo.

These incidences of freeway violence underscore the pressing need to bolster security measures on major roadways. It suggests a broader issue of gun violence that communities and law enforcement will need to address collectively. The ongoing frequency of such events highlights the urgency for comprehensive strategies to tackle this alarming trend, ensuring the safety and security of road users.
