San Jose Officer Shooting

San Jose Officer Shot is Partner of Assemblymember’s Brother

San Jose Assemblymember Evan Low revealed in a tweet that his brother is the partner of a San Jose Police Department officer who was shot on duty on Wednesday. According to Low, his brother, who was unharmed in the incident, acted heroically to extract his injured partner.

San Jose’s police chief lauded Low’s brother for displaying “undeniable courage” and credited his actions for contributing to the survival of both officers after the deadly attack. The officers were responding to a family disturbance call at a San Jose apartment complex when they came under fire immediately after knocking on the apartment door.

The female officer was shot in the upper chest, just beyond the protection of her bulletproof vest. She was rushed to the hospital and is currently in stable but critical condition.

The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Gabriel Mario Carreras, was apprehended following an hours-long standoff.

In his tweet, Assemblymember Low asked for support and encouragement for his brother and the injured officer, stressing the risks law enforcement officers take in the line of duty.
