In a daring incident, two men allegedly stormed a high-stakes poker game in San Jose, held the players up at gunpoint, and stole $30,000 in cash. The suspects, identified by the San Jose Police Department as Nicholas Boyd, 39, and Anhkhao Ledo, 39, both from San Jose, have been arrested.
The duo was booked into jail on charges of robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon following the poker heist that occurred on May 4 inside a house on Ambrose Court. “Over 10 victims were inside the residence playing poker when two armed masked suspects smashed the rear sliding door and entered. The suspects made the victims get on the floor and demanded money. One suspect struck a victim in the head with a firearm,” Sgt. Jorge Garibay wrote.
More than $30,000 in cash was retrieved by one of the victims from a bedroom under duress. While the thieves were attempting to flee the scene, officers managed to apprehend Ledo with the help of a police K-9, while Boyd evaded capture.
Boyd was not apprehended until July 26 when officers located him at his home. A police standoff ensued when Boyd barricaded himself inside the residence, where two children with special needs were also present. “During the standoff, the suspect attempted to escape through an attic space and fell into an adjoining neighboring residence. Officers safely evacuated the children and continued to negotiate for Boyd to surrender. He eventually exited the neighboring residence and was taken into custody,” Garibay added.
This case underscores law enforcement’s commitment to solving violent crimes and ensuring the safety of the community. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the authorities.
