Santa Clara County Loses Two Deputies in Separate Tragedies

Last week, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office suffered the loss of two valuable members in separate incidents.

On Tuesday, Richard “Troy” Reynolds, a 27-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, passed away following a medical emergency as he was leaving for work. Later in the week, on Friday, Arturo Romero, a 20-year member of the sheriff’s office, died in a car crash after a suspected DUI, wrong-way driver collided with him on Highway 87. Romero was heading home from his shift at a local jail when the incident occurred.

The driver, identified as a 26-year-old San Jose man surnamed Gonzales, was arrested following treatment for moderate injuries sustained in the crash.

The Sheriff’s office shared a statement asking the community to honor these extraordinary heroes by remembering their families and loved ones during this difficult time. The dedication and service of deputies like Reynolds and Romero to the communities of Santa Clara County will forever be remembered and appreciated.

These tragic incidents underscore the risks that law enforcement officers face every day, both on and off-duty, and remind us of the sacrifices they make to ensure public safety.
