Santa Rosa Food Delivery Driver Arrested for Assaulting Elder Adult In a disturbing incident, a 53-year-old food delivery driver from Santa Rosa was arrested by the Petaluma Police Department for assaulting an elder adult. The incident took place on October 23rd in the 100 Block of Payran Street. According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the location following reports of an assault. The victim, accompanied by her 4 and 6-year-old grandchildren, was crossing the street in the designated crosswalk at the intersection of Payran Street and Madison Street when a car disregarded their right of way and proceeded through the intersection. The driver of the car was identified as Carlos Barreda, a 53-year-old resident of Santa Rosa. The police investigation revealed that the victim noticed Barreda was on his cell phone and likely didn’t see them due to distraction as he passed by. As the victim and her grandchildren continued their walk, they noticed Barreda stopping ahead on Payran Street to deliver a pizza to a residence. Sensing the need to document the incident, the victim decided to take a picture of Barreda’s license plate. Upon his return to the car, the victim approached Barreda and asked if he had seen her and her grandchildren in the crosswalk. Shockingly, Barreda responded with a derogatory statement and, without warning, forcefully threw the victim to the ground in the presence of her young grandchildren. After the assault, Barreda fled the scene in his vehicle. The victim suffered visible injuries to her face, knee, and hand as her face struck the sidewalk during the fall. Fortunately, two community members witnessed the assault and rushed to her aid. They were able to provide statements to the responding officers, shedding light on the harrowing incident. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, the Petaluma Police Department’s Community Impact Response Team apprehended Barreda on October 27th. He was transported to the Sonoma County Jail and booked on charges of felony assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, felony assault on an elder adult, and misdemeanor child endangerment. As personal injury bloggers, we are deeply disturbed by this act of violence against an elder adult. Our thoughts and concerns go out to the victim and her family as they recover from this traumatizing incident.
