A security guard tragically lost his life after being attacked by a mob early Sunday morning outside a nightclub in Hollywood.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that officers were called to the Dragonfly Hollywood nightclub, located on the 6500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard near Wilcox Avenue, at around 2 a.m. The call indicated that a group of 7 to 11 people were assaulting an individual.
Friends and coworkers of the security guard, who gathered outside the club to pay their respects and leave candles, identified the victim as Daniel Sandifer.
The police are still investigating whether the altercation started inside the club and moved to the street or if it began outside entirely. The nightclub was open and filled with patrons when the incident occurred.
Detective Samuel Marullo of the LAPD West Bureau Homicide Division stated that for unknown reasons, a large group confronted the security guard, causing him to fall into the street. The group then advanced and proceeded to kick and stomp him to death.
The suspects reportedly fled the scene on foot, heading westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard to southbound Hudson Avenue.
Sandifer, whom friends described as a family-oriented man and a father of two, was 32 years old. No arrests have been made in connection to the attack, and no suspect descriptions have been released at this time.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers security personnel can face while on duty. It underscores the need for respect and caution in all situations, as well as the serious consequences when altercations spiral out of control.
