South L.A. Arson Victim’s Family Appeals for Justice

In a tragic incident in the Green Meadows neighborhood of South Los Angeles, a man was killed after his vehicle was set on fire. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the 400 block of East 102nd Street.

The victim, identified as Clay Buchanan, was believed to be sleeping in his car when an individual approached the vehicle, threw in a flammable liquid, and intentionally started a fire. The car was completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find only charred metal fragments remaining from the vehicle.

Buchanan was found with severe burn injuries near his vehicle and was rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his third-degree burns.

The case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made.

The victim’s niece, Larente Murray, described Buchanan as a “good soul” who was well-loved by all family members. She added that Buchanan was a jovial figure who enjoyed drawing and joking around with family and friends.

Murray is now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and help the Los Angeles Police Department with their investigations.

The victim’s family have set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses. This tragic event underscores the devastating consequences of violent crime and the impact it has on loved ones. It serves as a reminder of the importance of community support in bringing perpetrators to justice.
