A major dispute broke out on Friday night in the area of Winward Way in San Rafael, according to the local police department. Witnesses reported that at least 14 people were involved in the altercation, with some throwing beer bottles at one another.
Local law enforcement began receiving 911 calls about the brawl around 10:40 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a man with a facial injury, reportedly inflicted by a knife inside a sheath. The injured individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Two men, Joselito Miguel Vasquez and Selvin Alvarado Vasquez, were identified by witnesses as responsible for the man’s injuries and were subsequently detained at the scene.
According to police, a large group had been drinking in the area when a verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Several individuals in the group claimed gang affiliation, and two separate fights erupted in the street.
Joselito is accused of striking a victim in the face with the sheathed knife during the brawl, while Selvin is accused of kicking a victim in the face and stomach. A knife sheath, sans knife, was discovered nearby.
Authorities are still investigating whether any of the participants are genuinely affiliated with a gang. Both Joselito and Selvin were arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail, with Joselito facing charges of felony assault with a knife and Selvin charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.
