Street Racing Crackdown in L.A. County Results in 27 Arrests

A crackdown on street racing and sideshows in Los Angeles County over the weekend resulted in a total of 91 citations and 27 arrests, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The operation was conducted in several locations in the region on Friday and Saturday.

The Southern Division Street Racing Enforcement Unit intervened to stop groups of people from taking over intersections and engaging in various street racing activities. Other outcomes from the operation included 31 impounded or stored vehicles, two felony pursuits, and the recovery of one stolen vehicle.

In 2021, CHP officers responded to more than 7,300 street racing and sideshow incidents involving around 123,000 individuals. Over the past five years, the agency reports that more than 260 crashes in the state have been associated with street racing sideshows. Around 30 of these resulted in fatalities, while over 124 resulted in injuries.

This crackdown and the data from the CHP highlight the ongoing issue of street racing and its dangerous consequences. The efforts by the CHP demonstrate a proactive approach to reducing such incidents and enhancing public safety.
