Suspected DUI Driver Charged with Attempted Murder After Crashing into Orange County Kohl’s
In a shocking incident that unfolded last week, a man who crashed his vehicle into a Kohl’s department store in Huntington Beach is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder. Tuan Miller, a 54-year-old resident of Anaheim, was arrested after the incident, which took place at the Bella Terra Mall.
Miller allegedly crashed into the front of the Kohl’s store and then fled the scene. However, he was later apprehended, and it was discovered that he was under the influence of an undisclosed drug at the time of the crash.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer recently disclosed new details about the incident, revealing that it is being investigated as an intentional act. According to reports, Miller is accused of intentionally driving into a group of people who were gathered outside the store, listening to a group of singers. He allegedly drove onto the sidewalk, striking two women, before accelerating toward three other individuals. Shockingly, one of the victims became trapped in the front of Miller’s car as it crashed through the store’s glass doors.
Spitzer emphasized the gravity of the situation and condemned the decision to drive while under the influence of drugs, stating that it is “never the right decision.” He underscored the catastrophic and deadly consequences that often result from such actions. Spitzer called for society to awaken to the seriousness of driving under the influence and stressed the need for consequences when individuals choose to use drugs and get behind the wheel.
Additionally, Spitzer expressed concern about what he perceives as complacency among juries when it comes to convicting defendants charged with driving under the influence of marijuana or other drugs. He called for a change in mindset to ensure that individuals who engage in such behavior are held accountable for their actions.
Miller now faces six felony counts of attempted murder, as well as charges for driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, vandalism, and evading a police officer. If convicted on all counts, he could face a life sentence in prison.
The damages incurred by Kohl’s as a result of the incident were estimated to be around $425,000. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by impaired driving and the devastating impact it can have on innocent lives.
Miller is scheduled to appear in court on November 3, and we will continue to monitor the developments of this case closely. It is our hope that justice will be served, and that incidents like these will serve as a sobering reminder of the need for responsible and safe driving practices.
