The collision occurred when Sanchez, traveling north in a GMC Yukon near Stage Road, collided with a bicyclist just north of San Gregorio State Beach at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday. Following the initial collision, the Yukon then collided with a Chevrolet Silverado before continuing north, ultimately striking a tree and rolling over. According to the California Highway Patrol, Officer Dave LaRock, the vehicle subsequently caught fire. Thankfully, a heroic passerby pulled Sanchez from the vehicle, but sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital after experiencing pain, while the passerby remained unharmed. The bicyclist involved in the collision was airlifted to a hospital and is currently in stable condition. Fortunately, nobody in the Silverado sustained injuries. As of Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol’s investigation into the collision was still ongoing.
