The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has identified Travis Ikeguchi, 27, as the suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman at a clothing store in Cedar Glen, allegedly over the display of a Pride flag at the business.
Ikeguchi is believed to have shot and killed 66-year-old Laura Ann Carleton at her store, Mag.Pi, on Friday night. Carleton was found with a gunshot wound at her property and was declared dead at the scene.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot, but was later shot and killed by deputies after a confrontation. Ikeguchi was found in possession of an unregistered 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun.
It is suspected that Carleton’s display of a Pride flag outside her store was the motive for the killing. Ikeguchi is alleged to have made several derogatory remarks about the flag prior to shooting Carleton.
Ari Carleton, one of Laura’s children, described her as “fearless” and a “fierce ally” of the LGBTQ community, indicating her strong support for her family and friends who are part of the community.
This tragic incident highlights a stark reality of hate crimes and the fatal consequences they can have. It underscores the need for stringent laws to protect the rights and lives of individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or identity. It also brings to light the important role of law enforcement in ensuring justice is served and community safety is upheld.
