Two Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shootings in Boyle Heights

An adult and a teenager have been arrested in relation to the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Boyle Heights earlier this month. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on August 12 at the recreation center in Evergreen Park, located at 2844 East 2nd St., as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim, Alonso Ramos, received treatment at the scene but tragically succumbed to his injuries. Following an investigation, two suspects were identified: 26-year-old Michael Monarrez and a 14-year-old juvenile.

While detectives were working towards arresting the suspects, a second fatal shooting took place. On the morning of August 17, LAPD officers were called to the 500 block of Lorena Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Fermin Ruelas suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ruelas unfortunately died at the scene.

During the investigation of this second incident, LAPD detectives linked Monarrez to the shooting of Ruelas. Monarrez was arrested shortly after this second killing.

The juvenile was subsequently arrested in connection with the killing of Ramos on August 18. Monarrez has been charged with two counts of murder, while the District Attorney’s Office has filed a petition to charge the juvenile with murder as well.

Additional details about the victims or suspects have not been released. The apprehension of these suspects serves as a crucial example of dedicated law enforcement and the importance of thorough investigations in delivering justice for victims of violent crimes.
