Two Fatal Traffic Collisions Occur Over Weekend in San Jose

Over the weekend, two separate traffic collisions occurred in San Jose, resulting in two fatalities, according to the San Jose Police Department.

On Friday, August 11, around 5 p.m., a collision involving two cars took place at the intersection of Berryessa Road and Sabal Drive. A 2016 Chrysler 200, travelling eastbound on Berryessa Road, collided with a 2012 Honda Accord as the Chrysler was turning onto Sabal Drive.

Both drivers were transported to local hospitals. The driver of the Chrysler, who was alone in the car, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after, as per SJPD. This incident has been recorded as the city’s 29th fatal collision of the year.

The driver of the Honda suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is cooperating with the police.

On Sunday, August 13, just after 5 a.m., a 2013 Cadillac sedan was travelling eastbound on Story Road at high speed when it hit the center median and an unoccupied pickup truck parked along the curb. The driver, a man, was declared dead at the scene. The cause of the collision and the role of drugs or alcohol, if any, are currently unknown.

This incident has been noted as San Jose’s 30th fatal collision and the 31st traffic death of 2023.
