US Women’s Team Kick-off World Cup with Victory Over Vietnam

The US Women’s soccer team started their Women’s World Cup campaign on a winning note by beating Vietnam 3-0 in Auckland, New Zealand. Freshman Sophia Smith teamed up with captain Lindsey Horan to lead the Americans to victory.

Smith, who will be turning 23 next month and is participating in her first tournament, scored twice. She is the second-youngest US women’s player to achieve this feat in a World Cup game. Horan added another goal to the tally.

The robbers’ primary target is usually the postal keys, which open up mailboxes, allowing the criminals to sift through or steal items. But the postal inspection service does have some tips to help keep your information out of the wrong hands.

Vietnam, participating in the tournament for the first time, displayed resilience and kept the score relatively low. Their goalkeeper, Tran Thi Kim Thanh, even managed to stop a penalty attempt by Alex Morgan in the first half.

Smith shone in her World Cup debut, scoring two first-half goals thus validating her awards – U.S. Soccer’s Player of the Year and the National Women’s Soccer League MVP last year.

The U.S. team, which is looking to win an unprecedented third consecutive World Cup title, also celebrated Megan Rapinoe’s 200th international appearance in this match.

The United States will face Netherlands, in a rematch of the 2019 final, in Wellington on Thursday.
