Antonio Barajas, a 20-year-old man from Walnut Creek, is facing multiple felony charges in connection with an attempted robbery in Brentwood that ended in a fatal shooting.
Barajas and a 17-year-old boy, both armed, allegedly attempted to rob a 21-year-old Antioch man who was also armed. The incident took place at 7:45 p.m. on July 14 and resulted in an exchange of gunfire on Marjoram Drive.
The teenage boy and the Antioch man sustained gunshot wounds, while Barajas remained uninjured. Tragically, the 17-year-old later died from his injuries. Police found three firearms at the scene of the crime.
Barajas was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on the following charges: attempted murder, attempted robbery, conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and discharging a firearm. His bail has been set at $2.5 million and he was still in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
This case serves as yet another grim reminder of the potential consequences of criminal behavior and the senseless violence that can result from such actions. It underlines the importance of community vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to ensure public safety.
