In Calabasas, a wrong-way driver crashed into a tree on Saturday night and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lost Hills Station responded to reports of the single-vehicle crash on the 26800 block of Agoura Road, near Lost Hills Road, shortly after 10 p.m.
Preliminary findings suggest that the driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was traveling westbound on Agoura Road when they crossed into the eastbound lanes. The vehicle then went over the curb and collided with a tree.
Video footage from the scene showed considerable damage to the front end and passenger side of the four-door sedan, with airbags deployed inside the vehicle.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded to initial reports of the vehicle being on fire. However, upon arrival, firefighters found no fire, although the driver was declared dead at the scene.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, and it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs might have been a factor. Authorities have not released any additional details at this time.
