A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Caltrain in Mountain View early Thursday morning, marking the third fatality on the rail service for the year 2023.
The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. at the Rengstorff Avenue grade crossing where a southbound train hit the individual. At the time of the crash, there were 14 passengers on board the train. No passenger injuries were reported by Caltrain.
Following the incident, train service was halted for more than two hours. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office arrived at the scene at 3:24 a.m. to investigate the final cause of death.
