A cruise ship docking in San Francisco collided with Pier 27, resulting in visible damage, Princess Cruise confirmed to KRON4. The ship, the Ruby Princess, made “unexpected contact with the dock at Pier 27 while docking,” according to Princess Cruise’s statement.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident, and no passengers or crew members were put in danger as a result of the accident, as per the cruise line.
The Ruby Princess had just completed a 10-day roundtrip cruise to Alaska. The cruise line confirmed that the ship is “safely alongside,” and disembarkation is taking place as scheduled. As of now, Princess Cruise and local authorities are assessing the damage caused to both the ship and the pier.
The collision with the pier happened shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the cruise line. Photos provided to KRON4 show apparent damage to both the pier and the ship.
The Ruby Princess had 3,328 passengers and 1,159 crew members on board at the time of the accident. The ship had left San Francisco on June 26.
The ship is slated to depart at 4 p.m. on Thursday for another cruise to Alaska, though Princess Cruise stated that any delays or changes to that scheduled departure are “still being determined.”
This unfortunate incident underscores the importance of stringent safety measures and protocols in maritime operations to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.
