A high-speed chase and a crash involving a police car marked the dramatic arrest of four teenagers from Nevada in Palo Alto in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to the Palo Alto Police Department, an officer attempted a traffic stop just after 2 a.m. on a 2017 Kia Rio due to a moving violation. The car pulled over into a cul-de-sac near Ross Road and Nathan Way, and as the officer positioned his patrol car behind it, the driver collided with the patrol car while attempting a U-turn.
The suspects then fled the scene, heading down Ross Road to East Meadow Drive and crashing into a raised curb and signal pole as they tried to turn onto Alma Street.
All four teenagers were apprehended without further incident. Two of them were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries sustained during the pursuit.
Police later discovered that the teenagers had run away from a group home in Nevada on July 8 and were driving a car stolen from Nye County. The 15-year-old driver was arrested on charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon, evading police, and possession of stolen property. The three passengers, two aged 13 and one 14, were arrested for possession of stolen property. All four were taken to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.
